Zoo Atlanta

Pandas in Atlanta? You betcha! But most kids run to the World of Reptiles first. What is it about snakes and lizards???

Reptiles, amphibians, and pandas represent only a small number of the species you will see when you visit Zoo Atlanta. Orangutans may lounge lazily in their treehouse, or swing wildly from vine to vine. Giraffes, gazelles, and zebras live in harmony, while lions and tigers live in isolation.

Monkeys, gorillas, rhinos, elephants, and more await you at Zoo Atlanta. There are plenty of snack bars and restrooms located conveniently throughout the park. There is also a restaurant, but all dining is outdoors. Be prepared to be flocked by pigeons and peacocks if you drop anything!

Locals generally pack a lunch and eat at beautiful Grant Park adjacent to the zoo. It is a lush and lovely park with plenty of old, giant shade trees and picnic tables.

Zoo Atlanta is always growing, but may pale in comparison if you have visited zoos in larger cities. However, for less than twenty bucks a piece, Zoo Atlanta makes a nice family outing. When the parents get tired, there is a large playground for the kids, with lots of seating for the parents. There is even a small train for the kids to ride.

Zoo Atlanta is constantly changing, adding species and buildings, but it seems like once you've been there, you've seen it all. No need for a second trip. But that's just my opinion, have a look for yourself.

As with most educational places in Atlanta, watch out for crowds of schoolchildren on a fieldtrip. Most start to leave around twelve, or two, so you may want to plan an afternoon visit.
