INTRODUCTION

Located on the Hrazdan River?, this leading industrial, cultural, and scientific center in the Caucasus region is Armenia's largest city and capital. Yerevan is one of the oldest inhabited settlements in the world, filled with ancient architecture.

HISTORY

The territory of Yerevan has been settled since the fourth millennium B.C. In 685 A.D. the area was captured by the Arabs and became an important caravan between Europe and India. In 1827 Armenia became part of Russia. It gained a short independence during the Russian Civil War and permanent independence after the fall of the USSR.
