Winterthur Switzerland

INTRODUCTION

Winterthur is a city in the canton of Zurich in northern Switzerland. With a little more than 100,000 people, it has the country's sixth largest population. Today Winterthur is mainly a service and hightech industry center, but many people make use of its proximity to Zurich, which is only 18 minutes away by train. Winterthur is worth a day trip when visiting Zurich.

Winterthur, though not a typical tourist trap, is famous for its numerous museums, many of which offer world class art.

EVENTS

Musikfestwochen: In late August and early September, Winterthur's Old Town is taken over by live music of all kinds in the street, in the bars, and in concert venues.

Albanifest: This is the largest annual festival in Winterthur. It is named after St. Alban, one of the city's 4 saints. It lasts over 3 days in late June every year. It offers plenty of rides and rollercoasters and food from every corner of the world. It is a party that lasts until dawn.

Weekly Market: Twice a week an indescribably appealing mix of aromas wafts through the old city center: organic vegetables fresh from the farm, whole-grain bread, cheese, fish, flowers and herbs are on sale. The tremendous selection leaves nothing to be desired. After the shopping spree the countless cafés in the city invite you to have a leisurely breakfast. The weekly market takes place every Tuesday and Friday from 6 am to 11 am

NIGHTLIFE

The nightlife pulsates in every nook and corner of the city: with good reason Winterthur has acquired the reputation of a city for people who like to go out, offering a wide range of places to go, which leaves nothing to be desired. You are bound to find something you fancy among the places to go out in Winterthur.

Kafisatz: Winterthur's most popular café/bar among young and old, this café is always busy. When it is warm, people-watching while sitting at a table outside is a relaxing and pleasant break. At night, it is one of the busiest bars in Winterthur.

Cappuccino: A tiny café, a hole in a wall. Try their brunch with their delicious fresh croissants.
