Wilmington, North Carolina Travel Guide

Wilmington is a beautiful old southern city strattling the Cape Fear River? and the Crystal Coast? of North Carolina. Area beaches are beautiful with a wide variety of hotels/motels/hovels to choose from depending on the thickness of your wallet. Wilmington is almost a big city with great nightlife, restaurants to choose from but not so commercialized you feel hurried. The older parts of the city have lots of smaller restaurants spanning from inexpensive BBQ to classy, expensive dining "experiences" as well as an abundance of nationally known restaurants. A historical city, you could spend days exploring the streets, reading placards, and gazing at the architecture. I personally recommend the ghost walk, my children loved it!!

The history here is amazing. The architecture is beautiful in downtown. It is great fun to visit the USS North Carolina?. They say it is haunted! Either way it gives you a great feel for the sailors that were here.

The other Great thing about a stay in Wilmington is its access to all the islands for day trips to the NC Aquarium?. They have a great hands-on exihibit for everyone. The shopping along the waterfront is special and relaxing, with many unique items to be found at Cotton Exchange?

LODGING

Graystone Inn: A gorgeous and large traditional home in the historic district. This cozy residence has nine rooms to choose from.

The Verandas: Two blocks from the cape lies a charming Victorian Mansion that serves as a bed and breakfast. Eight rooms are reserved for visitors in this home on a quiet street, four blocks from the city entertainment.

RESTAURANTS

Indochine: Although travelers might expect American menus loaded with lots of seafood during their trip to North Carolina, this restaurant serves up Asian fare for those with the craving. A fusion of Thai and Vietnamese is prepared and enjoyed in an exotic atmosphere.

Bluewater: Here is the American cuisine you have been looking for! While dining on the waterfront, guests can order favorites like tuna salad and buffalo wings, or they can opt for some seafood like hot crab dip and raw oysters. For an innovative dish, try the Bluewater Seafood Lasagna.
