Waterford, Ireland

County Waterford

You've probably heard of Waterford Crystal, but did you know that this famed product comes from the oldest city in Ireland? Located on the (relatively) sunny southeastern coast Waterford was founded by Vikings in 852 A.D. Some remnants of this early time period remain in the form of the Old City Walls and Reginald's Tower (now a museum). Of course, the town has expanded since those early years, and the modern city is home to some beautiful 18th century architecture.

Waterford holds a great many attractions for visitors, including the Waterford Crystal Visitor Centre, the historic Reginald's Tower, and lots of fantastic shopping. Waterford city is also located near the Knockmealdown and Comeragh mountain ranges and the sea, making it a wonderful base for outdoor activities. Walking and biking tours of the city are also available.
