HISTORY

England and Scotland existed as their own independent countries since the 9th century. In 1284, the Principality of Wales fell under English control. In 1707, England and Scotland formed a political union under the Kingdom of Great Britain. Ireland temporarily joined this union in 1801 until the fight for independence in 1922. Since then, only Northern Ireland has been apart of the United Kingdom.
