Transylvania Romania

Many people automatically associate Transylvania with Dracula, and rightfully so, as the subject of the novel was Vlad III The King of Wallachia. Even though the novel's roots are in Transylvania, the region has much more to offer in terms of culture.

Transylvania actually translates to "the land beyond the forest." This area is very much behind the rest of Europe, as many of the medieval towns are impressively preserved. Even the professions of blacksmith, shepherd, and carpenter still remain.

The culture is a mix of several different influences, including German and Hungarian. The fusion of cultures can be seen in all aspects of life. Transylvania offers visitors a genuinely traditional step back in time, while surrounding them with mountains, wildlife, fairy-tale villages, and picturesque castles.
