The University of Illinois was founded in 1867, and since then, it has gained fame due to its association with many research projects including Dr. David Sherwood's work in reproductive biology as well as Marc Andreessen and Jim Clark's founding of Netscape as a browser project on the school's Supercomputer Center in Urbana.
The school boasts an impressive faculty, and notable alumni, 20 of which have won Nobel Prizes.
Currently the school is known for its Engineering department, which is currently ranked number five according to US News' 2008 College rankings, as well as its Agriculture and Animal Sciences departments.
The University also runs the Champaign County airport through the school's Aviation Department.
