The largest of the Canary Islands, it's capital and largest city, Santa Cruz, is also co-capital of the autonomous community. The Playa de las Americas, on the southern part of the island, is where most of the tourism is concentrated.
As Tenerfie is a volcanic island, black beaches string the shore line, interrupted only by those in which white sand has been imported. Teide's, the largest mountain on the island and a volcano, has snow-covered peaks that can be seen feom the Playa de las Americas, and most of the island.
