Tübingen is a beautiful little city set along the Neckar River?. It is reminiscent of Cambridge, in that the river is also used for leisurely punting on the river which flows at the foot of the hills on which Tübingen is built.
The city itself is most famous for the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen? and in fact, probably grew around it. It was founded in 1477 by Count Eberhard VI after he became acquainted with Renaissance ideas while travelling in Italy. He later became the first Duke of Württemberg, which is now a part of the state of Baden-Wurttemberg?.
