Sutter's Fort

Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park contains Sutter’s Fort and the California Indian Museum. Built by gold mining pioneer John Sutter in 1839, Sutter’s Fort was a trade and agricultural hub during the Gold Rush days. The fort was the destination point for the ill-fated Donner Party, and was essential in the formation of the city of Sacramento.
