During the day you can peruse the many funky shops lining the streets of downtown State College or have a drink and a bite at one of the many choices available.
The indisputable favorite of Penn Staters and State College visitors for breakfast is The Waffle Shop, located on College Avenue. In the mornings, there's usually a line out the door and down the street. The wait is worth it, though. The food is amazing and reasonably priced.
The Corner Room at the intersection of College Avenue and Allen Street is another great place to get some food. Guests are seated in large, elegant-looking booths . The food ranges from fancy meals to light, simple dishes.
A trip to State College isn't complete without enjoying a grilled sticky from The Diner, which is also located on College Avenue. The delicious grilled cinnamon buns are super-sweet but worth every calorie.
Because this is a college town, there are all levels of prices to appeal both to the college student on a budget, or the tourist (or parent) who wants to splurge on fine jewelry or a piece of artwork.
The historic Hotel Atherton, is within walking distance of both the shopping area and the Pennsylvania State University and is a good value.
