St. Peter's Basilica is actually located in the Vatican City and was, until 1989, the largest church in the world. It has the tallest dome in the world, which is definitely a hard, even though amazing, climb. Inside, the beauty is immeasurable. Every wall has a golden gleam, is made of marble, has mosaics or frescoes. Every where you turn, there is a new sight to amaze you, and the basilica holds countless treasures. It is supposed burial site of Saint Peter and is the known burial site of many Popes.
One of the treasures is the Pieta, carved by Michelangelo, which is famous for the unusual youth he gave to Mary. The statue is also famous because Michelangelo snuck into the church to carve his name into Mary's sash after hearing someone remark it was the work of another sculptor; it is the only work he ever signed.
