The South Side is a flexibly defined district in Edinburgh. The area is south of the Old Town and is mostly residential. Homes in the South Side can date from Victorian up through the 1960s. The area is also the location of several University buildings and is therefore popular with students. The South Side has less commercial development than Central Edinburgh, but there are several streets lined with shops, pubs and restaurants. The eastern edge of the South Side is also home to a variety of hotels and guest houses.
