Shakespeare S Houses And Gardens

One ticket will give you access to five important locations from Shakespeare’s life, and buying online will save you 10%.

Anne Hathaway’s Cottage Shakespeare’s wife, Anne Hathaway, spent her childhood in this thatched-roofed cottage. Guided tours are delightfully informative and entertaining. Learn where phrases like “upper-crust” and “sleep tight” came from, and then explore the beautiful gardens outside. The cottage is a bit of a walk from the center of town, so wear walking shoes and be prepared if you have young children.

Hall’s Croft Shakespeare’s eldest, Susanna, and her physician husband lived here. See an exhibit on Renaissance medicine, admire the period paintings and furniture, then tour the garden.

Mary Arden’s House With many animals, costumed tour guides, a falconry exhibition and lovely grounds, Mary Arden’s house is a great stop for children. Much of the attraction is outside, so try to avoid rainy days. At 3 ½ miles outside of town, Mary Arden’s house is easily accessible by train.

Nash’s House & New Place New Place was Shakespeare’s final home before his death. Though it was torn down in the 18th century, its foundation still stands next to its Elizabethan knott garden. Visitors access New Place after exploring Nash’s house. Shakespeare’s granddaughter Elizabeth married Thomas Nash. Their house contains many period furnishings and an exhibit on Stratford’s history.

Shakespeare’s Birthplace The house on Henley Street where Shakespeare was born, grew up, and spent the first few years of his married life is Stratford’s most popular attraction. Look in depth at Shakespeare’s life, learn how Shakespeare’s father made gloves, see what other famous writers have visited the house.
