Sentosa

Once the busy fishing village of Pulau Belakang Mati, this tiny island was transformed into a tropical holiday resort by the government of Singapore and renamed 'Sentosa', which means peace and tranquility in Malay.

Only 15 minutes from the city, Sentosa is a quick trip by cable car, bus or taxi. You'll find white sandy beaches, rainforest, native flora and fauna and plenty of family activities on over 1200 acres of island.

For a spectacular panoramic view of the island, hike to the top of the Tiger Sky Tower 430 feet above sea level. On a clear day, you can see all the way to Malaysia and Indonesia.

Up for round of golf? The Sentosa Golf Club has two championship 18-hole golf courses, chipping and putting greens and a luxurious clubhouse.

Visit The Underwater World aquarium to see over 2,500 fishes from 250 species. If you're feeling brave, dip your fingers into the touch pool and pet the starfish, stingrays and baby sharks. Hop on the moving travelator and glide through a 270 foot acrylic tunnel surrounded by sharks, stingrays, eels and other sea creatures. Book ahead for a chance to come face with the sharks in the "Dive with the Sharks" package.

Take to the sky and travel across the island on the Sentosa Skyride, or go by land and take the luge. Part go-cart, part-toboggan, the luge quickly zips you to your next stop on the island.
