History
The Seaside area was originally inhabited by Clatsop Indians, which encompassed more than 1100 square miles. Captain Robert Gray, of Boston, was the first European to anchor at the site - on May 11, 1792. Eminent American figures, Lewis and Clarke, visited the area in February, 1806. Settlers began to flock to the new 'Seaside' as industry grew, and it became known how fertile the land was. Soon after, the town became a top vacation destination.
