Saxony Germany

The original home of the Saxons, Saxony was conquered by Charlemagne in the 8th century. Like the rest of Germany, Saxony is full of incredible architecture and wonderful towns to explore. It was only 17 years ago when the Berlin wall was removed and East and West Germany were reunified. Relics of the former DDR (German Democratic Republic in English) and its communist ideals are still very noticeable today. Meeting and speaking with people in Saxony is a truly different experience from meeting and speaking with people in the West, which makes cities like Leipzig and Dresden very special. Although the East has made remarkable progress to catch-up with the industries and economy of the West, the region remains very distinct, often stereotyped, in the minds of Western Germans. Nonetheless, it is a fascinating part of Europe that continues to reinvent itself.
