Sausalito, California Travel Guide

Located just across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco, this waterfront community is a must see.

Easily reached by ferry from Fisherman's Wharf, by bike, bus, car or foot over the Golden Gate bridge, the Mediterranean flair this town gives reminds its tourists of the French Riviera.

Whether shopping through its myriad of stores, dining in one of its bayside restaurants, or hiking one of its nature trails, Sausalito is a bustle of activity until the sun goes down.

The Bay Model Visitor Center features a 1.5 acre working model of the bay, and the Bay Area Discovery Museum contains interactive treats for all ages. The town also features a famous houseboat community and easy access to Muir Woods and Mt. Tam.

For the true Sausalito experience, one should stay the night in one of its five charming hotels. After the last daytippers have left, the town becomes a wonderfully quiet resort-like town. The No Name Bar is a famous spot for an evening cocktail with live music. The quiet mornings along the Bay are alone worth the night's stay.
