San Diego Sights

The waterfront Embarcadero boasts grand views of Mission Bay and a tribute to maritime and aircraft history. At the San Diego Maritime Museum, visitors can tour several tall ships, including the Star of India, the world’s oldest active ship. Nearby is the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum, located aboard an aircraft carrier used by the US Navy in the Vietnam War. Visitors can tour many of the ship’s decks and view over 25 restored naval aircrafts used in World War II.

The world-famous Hotel del Coronado is one of the oldest and largest wooden buildings in California, and a stunning example of a Victorian luxury beach resort. Besides its historical significance and architectural grandeur, the hotel is famous for hosting current and classic movie stars, athletes, and presidents, including Charlie Chaplin, Babe Ruth, and Presidents Kennedy and Obama. The hotel, which opened in 1888 and still functions as a hotel, also served as the setting for many books, movies, and music videos. Visitors are welcome to look around and admire the hotel lobby and grounds.
