INTRODUCTION
A tropical island in the northeast Caribbean about 150 miles east of Puerto Rico, Saint Martin is the smallest inhabited sea island divided between two nations. The southern half of the island is a Dutch territory and the northern half is French. Sint Maarten, the Dutch side, is known for its festive nightlife, beaches, jewelry, and exotic rum-based drinks. Saint Martin, the French side, is known its for nude beaches, clothes, shopping, and rich cuisine.
If you're looking for high-quality stones at a low cost, Saint Martin is definitely worth the trip. Designer goods, especially jewelry, are often offered at extremely discounted prices, which can be up to 40% cheaper! And, since the Island is so diverse, English is a widely spoken language, so there shouldn't be much of a language barrier.
While driving, look at all of the different colored houses. Believe it or not, houses with white paint are the most heavily taxed, so instead residents use crazy colors to reduce their payments, which makes for a pretty colorful drive!
