INTRODUCTION
The state capital of Virginia, Richmond is seated at the fall line of the James River.
HISTORY
Although it was briefly settled in 1607 by settlers from Jamestown, this town was officially settled in 1737. Richmond was the site of many events during the Revolutionary War including Patrick Henry's famous "Give me liberty or give me death" speech. The capital was moved here in 1780 and in 1781 it was burned by British troops lead by Benedict Arnold.
In 1786, the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom was passed here separating church and state. During the Civil War, Richmond was named the capital of the Confederacy because of the strategic location of Tredegar Iron Works. It was captured in 1865 by Ulysses S. Grant. In 1887 Monument Avenue was laid out with several monuments to the Confederacy's heroes.

PERSONAL STORIES
I have only been to Richmond once. But from just the one visit, I would love to move there! All the people were very friendly. There is a lot to do there, like, my personal favorite, go to nearby Kings Dominion?. The city is large enough to provide anything and everything you could need or what to do, yet it isn't too large, so it does not get overwhelming.
