The mountains here are basically everything you have been looking for if gliding is your game The Wasserkuppe, the highest part of the Rhön at 950 m, is considered the home of gliding. It is said that Gliding actually started here and in 1924 this was the location for the world’s first gliding school Huge beech forests once grew here, that slowly over time were naturally replaced by lush mountain fields. peaks and valleys, fields, highland moors and striking basalt rocks, picturesque towns and peaceful villages – the Rhön is truley the land of wide open spaces. Hiking and Trekking is encouraged here as is a wonderful area for exploring what the mountains have to offer, either by air or foot.
