Queenstown New Zealand

INTRODUCTION

Queenstown is the South Pacific's top destination for thrill-seekers. With more adventure attractions per square meter than any other similarly sized town on earth, Queenstown is the ultimate adventure tourist spot! However, for those who could care less about thrills, Queenstown is still worth the visit. Surrounded by majestic mountains and an alpine lake, the natural beauty of Queenstown makes it a relaxing, tranquil destination for your next holiday. And the region's wines will not disappoint.

HISTORY

Prior to European settlement, Queenstown was home to the original inhabitants of New Zealand, the Maori. In 1860 William Gilbert Rees became the first European settler in the region. Rees established a farm and later became a key player in the town's gold rush. It was said that the town "...was fit for Queen Victoria", and so it was named in her honor.
