Puerto Plata Dominican Republic

Puerto Plata is a natural port and because of its port, as well as the tobacco boom it experienced, was one of the wealthiest towns in the Dominican Republic a century ago. This town is not a top destination when it comes to tourism, but there are several historical sites, which is the main attention getter for visitors. "Fuerte de San Felipe" (San Felipe's port) and the historical mansions are some of the best attractions to visit. Dining at one of the restaurants located in the "Malecon" is a great choice. Be sure to visit the "Amber Museum of Puerto Plata", the "Brugal Rum Destilery", to experience how real rum is made, and "Mount Isabel de Torres", a mountain you can get to by gondola or cable car.
