Parma Italy

Parma is home to some of the best food in Italy, which is no surprise as it is part of the region called Emilia-Romagna, an area famous for its authentic Italian products. Of course there are castles, palaces and other works of art to visit, but the real excitement is at the sites where these epicurean creations are produced with age-old recipes. One very popular item should come to mind quickly as it shares the name of the city: Parmigiano-Reggiano, or as Americans known it, Parmesan. Tourists can visit a cheese factory where, for one hour, they will be taught how the cheese is transformed from milk to the popular commodity. Samples will even be distributed so that visitors can taste what top-quality Parmigiano-Reggiano tastes like.

Another speciality, for carnivores especially, is prosciutto di Parma. On a tour of the production site, guests will be shown how to dry the meat, how to test it to make sure it is ready, and how to eat it. Tastings of the salty ribbons of meat will also be given here.
