The Pantheon
Built in 125 AD as a temple for the Ancient Roman gods, the Pantheon is now used as a Christian church, which is why the ancient structure was preserved and not ransacked like its contemporaries. As it is the oldest standing Roman dome, the Pantheon is a necessary stop for travelers. Not only will the outer and interior architecture leave you awestruck, but the dome has an open circle at its top, allowing in a single beam of sunlight, creating an experience beyond words. It is perhaps the one place in Rome that you'll want to visit in the rain. The Pantheon is not overwhelmingly crowded either.
