National Portrait Gallery

Founded in 1856, the National Portrait Gallery has over 160,000 portraits of important British men and women from the 16th century to today. Located behind the National Gallery and Trafalgar Square, this free museum holds both traditional and modern portraits, including Andy Warhol’s pop art pictures of Queen Elizabeth II as well as recent portrait of Prince William and Prince Harry.

The gallery has a permanent collection of over 11,000 portraits and acquires works in all media. It houses portraits of the most prominent people in British history and is continually commissioning works for future collections.
