National Aquarium Maryland

The National Aquarium in Baltimore has been attracting visitors to the Inner Harbor for 25 years. Recent renovations and additions continue to make this a harbor hot spot. If you are planning to visit the aquarium, consider ordering your tickets in advance. The lines could leave you standing outside for more than 40 minutes.

The aquarium's newest addition--TV's Animal Planet WildExtreme--takes visitors to Australia without leaving Baltimore. WildExtreme houses many animals and creatures native to the Outback of Australia. Learn about the natural habitat of those who call the Great Down Under their home and feel the mist of 35-foot cascading waterfall in the Glass Pavilion.

After your trip to Australia, stop by the Aquarium's most popular attraction--the dolphin exhibit. A tip provided by one of the aquarium staff members--seats fill up fast, so get there at least 15-20 minutes before showtime. There is not a bad seat in the dolphin arena, and the TV screens on the sides of the pavilion keep you involved in the action happening in the tank. Don't sit in the "splash zone" unless you like to get wet (kids and adults sitting in the zone are squishing in their shoes after the show!). Two of the dolphins, Maya and Spirit, are the youngest dolphins at the aquarium. During the shows, trainers work with them to showcase how these little ones are learning and playing at the aquarium.
