Mount Hua China Travel StoryJust returned from China, and thought you might be interested in our tour which included Mount Hua, a couple of hours by bus from Xi'an, China. We found the adventure exciting, in that we were able to climb to several overlooks at the top of the mountain with ordinary shoes, and just a walking stick. After a few hairpin curves by bus, you reach a cable car station that takes you up the tedious climb. At the top, there are several trails, and even a hostel for those who climb the "regular" way. The peaks are reached by stairs almost all the way, though some are just carved into the side of a steep slope, and some require pulling up holding on to chains to reach the next plateau. I found it amazing that the merchants manning the plateau managed to bring water and supplies up carrying them on bamboo poles across the shoulder up some very steep atairs. Alas, our view was limited at the top, as clouds were shrouding our view, though we could see quite clearly from below and from the cable car.
