Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Milwaukee is a vibrant city with a range of attractions. An integral part of the downtown area is the lakefront, the beauty of which is epitomized in the fantastical architecture of the Quadracci Pavilion (built as an addition to the Milwaukee Art Museum). The lakefront is also home to a series of festivals over the summer, including Summerfest (an 11 day event featuring many big name acts) in July and Milwaukee Irish Fest (the largest celebration of Irish music and culture in the world) in August.

Sandwiched between Lake Michigan and the Milwaukee River, Milwaukee's hip and historic East Side offers a trendy mix of shops, bars, and cafes. This is probably the best place in the city to people watch. If you have time, catch a movie at the ornately decorated Oriental Theater which was first built in 1927 and is still in operation today with focus on independent films.

Milwaukee has been known throughout its history as "the beer capital of the world," and the city remains the home of the Miller and Sprecher breweries (guided tours of both are available). Of course, downtown is also home to a variety of pubs, each with its own distinctive atmosphere, meaning that nightlife in Milwaukee is anything but dull!
