Maputo Travel Guide

Located in the far South of Mozambique is the busy harbour and capital city of Maputo.

Maputo's most important landmark is the Fort of Nossa Senhora da Conceiao (Our Lady of Conception) which was the nucleus of the original settlement.

Another imposing building is the Central Railway Station, an enormous structure looking more like a palace for kings, than a siding for commuters.

Maputo market is also worth visiting where you can buy lots of cheap home grown cashew nuts, chillis and lots of fresh sea-food.

Just South of the city is the Maputo Elephant reserve with elerphants, hippos, crocodiles and antelopes.

Maputo can be quite a dangerous city and tourists can be hasseled or prone to scams due to the high rate of unemployment and poverty so staying in a good, reliable hotel is highly reccomended.
