Manhattan New York

This is both the Island of Manhattan and the Borough of Manhattan, one of the five boroughs of New York City.

(Manhattan/NYC) New York City is by far the most populated of the five Boroughs. New York City is the destination of many tourists across the country due largely to its popularity in pop culture. Times Square is the most dense section of New York (34th Street to 50th Street, from Broadway to Madison). Broadway is located here, which explains the congestion. You can literally find anything you want in the stores located throughout the city. The same goes for food. If you can't find something to eat in the Italian, Irish, Chinese, Korean, Mexican scattered about, you're not looking hard enough.

Manhattan is also the center of high art. At the Metropolitan Museum of Art, you can view ancient Greek, Roman, and Egyptian Art as well as countless other masterpieces. At Lincoln Center, you can take in a performance of the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera, the New York City Ballet, or American Ballet Theatre. You can also see world famous performers at Carnegie Hall. Farther uptown, you can visit The Cloisters, a medieval monastery transplanted from Europe.

For modern art, you should visit The Guggenheim, The Museum of Modern Art, or the American Museum of Contemperorary Art. At the American Museum of Natural History, you can come up close and personal with a T. Rex.

At the southern tip of Manhattan, don't miss the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. There's a ferry that drops you off at both you sites. You can climb into Liberty's crown, and on Ellis Island you can learn about the immigrants that made this country into the melting pot it is today.

The views from the top of the Empire State Building are not to be missed. Some say it's one of the most romantic spots in the city.

You shouldn't leave Manhattan without taking a stroll in Central Park. It's best in spring or fall, but beautiful in any season. Take a carriage ride. Place flowers on the "I believe" plaque near Strawberry Fields, made famous by John Lennon who lived nearby. Have an extravagant dinner at Tavern on the Green. Or simply wander along the rambling paths that often give way to breathtaking views of the Manhattan skylie.
