MünsterlandCastles and Horses! Ever wanted to see a castle with a moat? Well here they are! The moated castles are the "pearls of the Münsterland Region". The moats, called Gräften, that surround the castles an offer a barrier of resistance against invading forces. There were no mountains or cliffs here that the knights could build these wonderful castles on, hence they lay on flat ground surrounded by water or walls and accessible only by bridge.
