Le Havre Normandy

Le Havre is situated on the bank of the mouth of the River Siene, which flows through Rouen and, more importantly, Paris. It is the second most important port in France. The town had major important during WWII, as it was the east end of the Normandy Invasion, which began with the turning point battle of D-Day. Because of this role however, many of the historic buildings were destroyed and the town is very modern.

Attractions

Cathedral - The first stone of this Cathedral was laid in 1536, and it is now the seat of the Bishop of Le Havre.

Church of St. Joseph - This church is one of most recognizable buildings in the city because the tower rises 106 meters into the air and can be seen from almost anywhere in the city.

Fine Arts Museum - This museum houses art from across 5 centuries but is most known for its impressionist works which are only preceeded by the Musee d'Orsay in Paris.
