These are natural caves that were artificially enlarged in the 19th century to obtain white sand to make glass. Laumas Nature Park Take a hike along the Bee, Plant, Sports, Forest, and Bird Trails. This nature park has activities on offer such as fishing, cycling and mini golf. Lake Ciecere Lake Ciecere is a popular recreation area with good swimming beaches and opportunities for water sports. Boat and paddle boat rentals are available. Guest houses on the banks of the lake offer lodging, invigorating saunas, horseback riding, and various other sporting activities. Dikļi Palace This Neo-Baroque manor house was built in 1896, and is now a hotel. There are over 20 fireplaces and masonry stoves in the palace, all built during the late 19th century and early 20th century. Dobele Castle Ruins In the 12th century Dobele was one of the main Semigallian settlements. The Livonian Order replaced the ancient Semigallian wooden castle with a stone castle in the 14th century. Today only the romantic ruins of this stone castle remain. The Holy TrinitySt. Sergius Convent in Rīga This convent, which was established in 1886, is currently home to about 70 sisters. There are two churches and a unique icon collection on the convent territory RESTAURANTS LODGING Hotel Garden Palace - This lovely 4 star hotel is located close to the center of town and is in easy walking distance to everything including public transport.
