HISTORY
The area of downtown Lansing was plotted by two brother from New York in 1836. Most of the city was underwater, but the brother's sold land to unsuspecting people in Lansing, New York. When the settlers got there, some moved out to what is today metropolitan Lansing. Some stayed in the area and named it after thier hometown in New York.
In 1847, the capital was moved here from Detroit due to its centralized location. Today's Lansing is made up of three villages that are called, Old Town, REO Town and downtown Lansing. The town became an industrial site after the founding of Olds Motor Vehicle Company in 1897.
