Lake Turkana, formerly known as Lake Rudolf is situated in the Turkana desert in Northern Kenya close to the border with Sudan with its far northern end crossing the border with Ethiopia.
It is the world's largest permanent desert lake and appears to be a mirage when you come across it after trekking for hours across the remote turkana plains.

The main attraction is a boat trip to Central island which is a live Volcanoe with the highest concentration of nile crocodiles in the world, over 14,000!
The lake is also home to 100's of bird species native to Kenya and the Turkana.
Getting to and from the lake can be a difficult and lengthy process as roads are deteriorating and public transport in the area is close to none.
