Lake Norman

This lake is bordered by four counties; Mecklenberg, Catawba, Lincoln and Iredell County. Named after Duke Power President, Norman Atwater Cocke, Lake Norman was first predicted to be an inland sea. It is 34 miles long and eight miles across at its widest point. Its surface area of 32,500 acres has 250 miles of shoreline. It also is 760 feet above sea level and 130 feet deep at its deepest point. Furthermore, the lake holds 3.4 trillon gallons of water.

This lake has three generating plants. These plants are Cowan's Ford, Marshall Steam Station and the William B. McGuire Nuclear Station. Charlotte and Mooresville rely on Lake Norman for their dependable water supply.
