Lake Bracciano is a great day trip you can make to escape the bustle of Rome. The town is built right on the lake, and you can rent a boat or just swim in the cool waters on a hot summer day. The most famous attractions in the Castello Orsini-Odescalchi, which is incredibly well-preserved and is a great example of Renaissance military architecture. Inside, the rooms are decorated close to their original ancient styles, and there is also a costume museum of famous movie garbs in some of the newer rooms. The castle is a famous site for events and hosted the infamous Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes wedding.
