Lac Abbé

Located 200 km from the capital city of Djibouti, Lake Abbé. A visit here is like taking a trip to another planet which is why the movie 'Planet of the Apes' was filmed here.

The land is harsh and barren with scrub bushes and an empty desert atmosphere as it is the cenral point of the Afar Depression. However the lake is also known for its spectacular flocks of pink Flamingos and its 50 m high limestone chimneys which vent steam and can be seen from far away.
