Koutoubia Mosque

Though the mosque is closed to non-Muslims, its historic and beautiful minaret towers over the city and is visible for miles. Constructed in the 12th century, it is the oldest of the three remaining Almohad minarets. Its name is derived from Arabic for “book,” due to the booksellers down the road when the mosque was built.
