INTRODUCTION

Now known by most people as the country where comedian Sacha Baron Cohen's quirky character "Borat" resides, Kazakhstan's image hasn't necessarily been the picture of truisms. Kazakhstan is the the largest state from the former Soviet Union. Because of its vast size (8th largest in the world), little is known of what Kazakhstan has to offer tourists, but there are options.

Astana is the country's capital, but didn't become so until 1998. Almaty is the country's former capital and is home to most foreign embassies.
