Karlskirche

Karlskirche, built in 1715, was commissioned by Emperor Karl VI, who promised that if the black plague left Vienna, he would build a church dedicated to St Charles Borromeo, the emperor’s namesake. This Baroque church incorporates architectural elements from Greece and Italy and is noted for its green copper dome and majestic columns on the façade. The interior is painted in traditional Baroque style, with frescoes on the walls and ceiling.
