Isle Royale National Park, Michigan Travel Guide

Isle Royale is one of the most inaccessible of all the national parks. The only way to get onto the island is by boat or sea plane and the park itself presents a harsh rugged landscape. Hiking this remote island is popular and the area is known for its many ship-wrecks.

The water of Lake Superior is rarely above 52 degrees and the summer temperatures on land are also quite cool. Thunderstorms are common so rain gear should always be on hand.

Due to the lakes cold temperature year-round, the shipwrecks in the area are very well preserved. Scuba Diving is popular at the park, however the dives are cold and often difficult. Novice divers are recommended to use a guide or take on less treacherous dives before attempting.
