Imperial Treasury

Located in the Hofburg palace in the center of Vienna, the Imperial Treasury, or Schatzkammer, is a journey through over 1,000 years of history and is home to treasures from the House of Hapsburg, Austria’s former ruling family.

The museum is divided into two sections, the Secular Treasury and the Ecclesiastical Treasury. The Secular treasury includes Imperial Regalia of the Holy Roman Empire, the Crown Jewels of Austria, Hapsburg Household Treasures, and many other centuries-old relics.

The Ecclesiastical Treasury contains a collection belonging to the Hapsburgs of relics, altars, and other items used in mass and for other religious purposes. Some notable pieces include ornate monstrances, one of which is said to hold a nail from the true cross that was used in the right wrist of Jesus.

With entrance costing around $15 for adults, this impressive collection accurately portrays the former wealth and power the Hapsburg monarchy.
