About 10 minutes to the west of Portland you'll run into the seat of Washington County, Hillsboro.
It's another area outside of Portland whose main specialty is cheap housing in order to get people to commute to the city. It is served by Tri-Met and it has a MAX line running through it, making a commute to the city very easy and relatively hassle free.
One of the best features about Hillsboro is its overabundance of golf courses. The most noted one is Pumpkin Ridge, the course where Tiger Woods won his last amateur championship before going to the PGA, but there are tens more in the city. Hillsboro is a great place to take a day trip and just enjoy some time outdoors on the links, and maybe throw your 4 iron into the water hazard because you can't hit that damn approach shot.
The Orenco neighborhood has a development that was constructed in the early 2000s that is trying desperately too look like the row housing of Brooklyn. For a laugh, go and check it out. At least the golf course nearby is good.
