Great Smokey Mountains National Park, North Carolina Travel Guide

The Great Smokey Mountains is a wonderful forest preserve located on the border of Tennessee and North Carolina. The park has over 800 miles of trails as well as plenty of camp grounds. The wildlife is abundant and the fishing is excellent. For all these reasons and more Great Smokey Mountains is the most visited National Park in the country.

The weather in the park sees mild winters with hot humid summers. The temperature also varies greatly depending on elevation. So if you plan to hike one of the parks many mountain peaks, layered clothing is advisable.

Perhaps the biggest attraction to the park is its bear population. Over 1,500 black bears call the park home and bring in millions of visitors each year. Elk and deer also inhabit the park, making Great Smokey Mountains, one of the best parks to view these large animals.
