Great Basin National Park, Nevada Travel Guide

The Great Basin flows from the flat dessert floor, through deep pine forests, and up the steep face of Wheeler Peak. The park has incredible views of the night sky due to its remote location. It is far from a barren landscape and provides a home for many types of plants and animals.

Due to the large variation in elevation the weather changes dramatically. High elevations are cold and icy while the valley floor experiences dessert conditions with high temperatures and little rain fall.

A great activity while visiting the park is taking a tour of Lehman caves. This cave system is made of marble and features beautiful stalactite and stalagmite formations. Be sure to reserve a ticket before hand as these tours often sell out.
