The city of Gondor, known as "Africa's Camelot" is situated 500km north of Addis Ababa, nestled in the foothills of the Simien mountains at 2,200 metres above sea level.
Gondor was the capital of Ethiopia from the rise of Fasilades to the fall of Tewodros (1855-68). The city is famous for its many castles and palaces. The main castle of Gondor was built from the 1500's until about 1720.
The city commands spectacular views over farmlands to the gleaming waters of Lake Tana thirty-five kilometers to the south and retains an atmosphere of antique charm mingled with an aura of mystery.
